Abu Dhabi to Launch Region’s First Commercial Air Taxi Flights

Abu Dhabi is set to become the first in the region to host commercial air taxi flights, thanks to a groundbreaking agreement between Archer Aviation Inc. and key UAE stakeholders. This multi-party cooperation was formalized in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, marking a significant milestone in advanced urban mobility.

The project, backed by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) and other entities, will also establish the region’s first manufacturing hub for vertical electric vehicles. This collaboration is in line with the Abu Dhabi Smart and Autonomous Systems Council’s efforts to position the emirate as a global leader in next-generation transportation.

Badr Al Olama, Director-General of ADIO, emphasized the transformative impact of the partnership, saying, “This partnership accelerates Abu Dhabi’s vision for smart mobility, making the emirate a global leader in autonomous vehicles.”

The initiative will focus on certifying Archer’s Midnight aircraft for commercial operations, with regulatory support from the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). Nikhil Goel, Chief Commercial Officer at Archer, highlighted the UAE’s strategic role in the project, saying, “With Abu Dhabi’s forward-thinking approach, we are confident in delivering a seamless air taxi experience.”

This ambitious project promises to enhance urban mobility, positioning Abu Dhabi at the forefront of innovative transportation technologies.
