Dubai Man Gets One Year for Impersonating Officer and Defrauding Woman of Dh39,900

A Dubai court has sentenced an Asian man to one year in prison for impersonating a police officer and defrauding a European woman of Dh39,900 through a deceptive scheme.

The defendant, along with an accomplice who remains at large, contacted the victim, claiming to be from the Financial Investigations Department. Posing as a police officer, he requested her personal details under the pretense of verifying her bank records.

The woman, after receiving a counterfeit police ID from the suspect, reluctantly provided her bank information, including an OTP code. Soon after, Dh39,900 was transferred from her account.

Realizing she had been scammed, the victim alerted authorities. Dubai Police arrested the suspect, who admitted to working with his accomplice to create fake accounts.

The man was fined Dh39,900 and will be deported after serving his sentence. Dubai Police have stressed the importance of verifying identities before sharing sensitive information.
